Bio

Dr. Rangan joined Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2007 as the Chair – Finance, Insurance and Real Estate department. He currently serves as the “Dean’s Distinguished Professor of International Business and Finance” and coordinates the School of Business International initiatives. Prior to September 2022, he was the Associate Dean for International and Strategic Initiatives for the VCU School of Business. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Madras, India, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.

Prior to joining VCU, he served as the Charles G. O’Bleness Chair of Banking and Finance, and the Executive Director of International Operations at the College of Business at Ohio University. He has also served as the Associate Dean and Chair of the Finance departments at Ohio University and Southern Illinois University during his tenure at these schools.

He has been involved in executive education and consulting since 1990, and has taught executives in Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Singapore, and US.

He has published extensively in leading finance and economics journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, The Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, Financial Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Managerial Decision Economics, Journal of Economics and Business, and Economics Letters. His teaching, research and consulting interests include corporate finance, financial institutions, financial markets, and public policy. He is a recipient of several awards for excellence in teaching, research, and service. He was ranked in the top 5% among researchers in the field of Finance in the “Most Prolific Authors in the Finance Literature: 1959-2008 “. Research Gate recently ranked his research interest score higher than 97% of researchers in work related to Financial Economics.
